A FUNctional Approach
For more than 50 years, Lake Erie Nature & Science Center (LENSC) has been inspiring and educating families about the world around them with a live creature collection, wildlife rehabilitation, animal outreach, educational workshops, and a world-class planetarium. LENSC’s revenue is solely derived from membership and visitor donations.
LENSC called on The Adamo Group to give their identity an extreme makeover, recreating a logo and identity system—which had not been updated in 30+ years—while helping to educate their supporters about the Center’s three program areas: Live Wildlife Exhibits & Rehabilitation, Educational Programs, and the Planetarium. It was important for the new logo to show these distinctive areas and to also be adaptable (and segmented), for many times a donor may choose to earmark a donation for a single program area. Specific initiatives for these programming areas called for a separate “identity” that fit in with the overall LENSC look.
Strategy
The new LENSC identity needed to appeal to children and families in both style and color; and it also needed to solve the segmented donation challenge. The Adamo Group designed the identity as three separate but integrated images. This allowed the logo to be used as a whole for the corporate signature, with the three programming areas called out to serve as segment identifiers, for individual letterheads, signage, etc.
Results
The innovative new identity brought LENSC up to date with a totally functional and modern identity system that will withstand the test of time. To maintain identity integrity, an identity manual in PDF form was developed.
